Ignite Your Passion
Live Life to the Fullest

Your Sherpa Guide
By John G. Kelly B.Com., LL.B., M.Sc. (international relations) M.A. (Jud.Admin) F.CIS

P.A.S.S

You’ve read the book and have a first- hand account of how my first attempts in learning (F.A.I.L) and rekindling them to ignite my passion have enabled me to succeed in “living life to the fullest” in my professional career and  in  intergenerational strong age- friendly towns (S.AFTs) . I’m now going to be your guide helping you chart your personalized pathway. You’re going to ignite your “passion”, find out how to “affordably” access it and embrace the “socialization” to “succeed”. Yes, you’re going to P.A.S.S  into your own personalized pathway of  "living the life you want to live to the fullest" in a "strong age friendly town (S.A.F.T.)  in a vibrant multi-cultural country.

“P”
Passion
Reflect on and reconnect with Part III “Careerism” in my “Meaningful Memories”. What you read in Chapter 18 may well be what you experienced to some degree.
  • If you were a home grown Canadian like me, you probably  took what you were told was the the smart route and bought into a career  that  shaped your professional and personal life
  • If you're in the "coming of age category" as a member of  that new generation "z" you're hearing more of the same even though you know deep down inside you that "the times they are a changin".
  • If you came to Canada as an immigrant or refugee this was your opportunity to create your own personal pathway to a good life for you and your family.  Now you need mentoring and counselling on how to do it in the vibrant Canadian multi-cultural community.
  • When you got to Chapter 19 you read about how because of my good fortune in encountering a "F.A.I.L" early in my career I was able to rekindle those learning experiences, think for myself and ignite my passion. I then moved on to to my personal pathway  and "live the life to the fullest" that I was meant to live.
  • Part IV “Moving On” in my “Meaningful Memories” shows you having learned how to think for myself and pursue lifelong passions has enabled me to chart that personalized  pathway .

  •  Take a breath.
  • If you're home grown  shut out all of the noise from family, friends and co-workers in your life, no matter how well intentioned they all may be, along with the marketing bombardments from social media and think for yourself.
  • If you're an immigrant  step outside all of those social networks you've been plugged into.
  • Free yourself from all of those fear factors associated with first attempts in learning (the invaluable F.A.I.L). The recounting of my F.A.I.L in C.18 “Careerism” is proof positive of how a F.A.I.L is the first step on the pathway to success.
  • Look back and look around at what you would really love to do if only you had the time and opportunity.
  • If you're an immigrant take a look around and locate at a strong age friendly town (S.A.F.T) that has that multicultural focus that attracted you to Canada and think about how this can be the place to create a personal pathway to the life you want to lead.
  • Yes, now is the time to take your time because " the times they are a changin".  This is your opportunity to discover and ignite or reignite your passion.
  • Align those passion with your personal preferences.
  • Chart your personalized  pathway to "live life to the fullest".
  • Move on

“A”
Affordability & Accessibility
  • Yes, you do need to align your personal preferences with what you can afford to do. But don’t let finances be your   lifestyle driver. Put yourself in the driver's seat.
  • If  post secondary education cost is a barrier start thinking and looking outside the away from home university envelope into public and private sector local colleges, apprenticeships and the armed forces. Skill development can be an invaluable initial post-secondary F.A.I.L
  • Do a reread of the C.9, “The Homestead”. My dad ignited his passion to start up a business with no money but figured out how to make it work by making creative use of our family home as a financing source. Don't shy away from entrepreneurship.
  • If you're an immigrant you've already succeeded in participating in one entrepreneurial F.A.I. L by coming to Canada. Keep it going.
  • Reread the C.21 “Interlude”. My wife, Susan, and I made our dream of integrating rving in North America into our intergenerational age- friendly  environment work by starting out with a motorcycle and camping trailer.  Yes, "living life to the fullest" encompasses leisure and it is accessible and affordable.
  • Don’t just dream on. Move on.

“S”
Socialization

  • "Living life to the fullest" is synonymous with  intergenerational  multicultural active community living.
  • Intergenerational  active community living integrates the four stages of aging, youth, adulthood, aging active seniors  (the new boomer generation of young/olds “YOLDS”) and the emergent generation of mature elders (MELDs) into a vibrant intergenerational mix.
  • Multiculturalism enriches the intergenerational mix with insight into how to add value to the old ways by integrating them into a multicultural mix.
  • Strong age friendly towns (S.A.F.T.) with their "15 minute walks" to  main streets "hubs" with local businesses are socialization anchors.
  • Do a re-read of C.1 “Parish Life” to understand how socialization and active community living in intergenerational  strong age friendly towns (S.A.F.T.) with their blending of  an intergenerational population and  multiculturalism are sustainable infrastructure  environmental  anchors.

“S”
