The Care Economy
&
Holistic Health

The Care Economy

The care economy is a vision that encompasses the sustainability of the population and the environment as the driving force for growth in society. It encompasses all forms of care work, both paid and unpaid, that nurture the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of people across all generations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. The care economy includes sectors like healthcare, childcare, elder care, education, social work and social services such as psychology and counselling. It is seen as an essential part of the economy's infrastructure, promoting human dignity and well-being. This sector is increasingly recognized as a vital investment. Paid care in health and education alone is a key engine of the economy, generating at least 12% of GDP and 21% of jobs.

Holistic Health

  • Health services are among the fastest growing self-regulated  professional, certified professional credential services and administrative management services in Canada.
  • There is a “new age” health services market that extends beyond the parameters of acute care for illness that is physician and hospital centric and is personal wellness focused under the label of holistic health.
  • Holistic health is an approach to life that considers multidimensional aspects of wellness. It encourages individuals to recognize the whole person: physical, mental, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual.
